SAVE those Ring Tabs, HELP someone Walk

1 09 2011

CROSSRO@DS has been helping CHIJ Secondary (Toa Payoh)’s Project 11, which aims to collect 15 million ring tabs by mid November 2011. To date our staff and volunteers have collected about 25,000 ring tabs and have already donated this 1st batch to the school.

We encourage you to join us in this worthy cause to give a physically challenged person an artificial limb. The ring tabs will be donated to the Prostheses Foundation of HRH The Princess Mother in Thailand, which provides FREE artificial limbs for needy amputees. 15 million ring tabs can be used to produce 10,000 prothestic legs.

Lets do our part to recycle and help needy amputees. CROSSRO@DS will collect your washed and dry ring tabs on 13 November from 2 MRT locations-Bt Batok and Outram Park MRT. Do email Wendy at crossroads.life@gmail.com for collection details by 11 November.

Young Explorer Programme

20 10 2009

Join the Pangaea Expedition-Young Explorer Programme (Youths 15-20 years old)

Youths selected will join Mike Horn on his environmental projects at different points of his expedition. Through the expedition, explorer Mike Horn hopes to inspire youths to become life-long ambassadors of environmental issues.

19th of October : Mike Horn leaves Singapore
We set sail this morning at around 10am Singapore time. If time was permitting we would have loved to have stayed for longer as we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the One 15 Marina. Many, many people visited the boat while she was berthed in Sentosa. We took advantage of the great Singaporean super markets and stocked up Pangaea with food for the up-coming Young Explorer Programme that will be held shortly in Malaysia.

Pangaea is now bulging at the seams and ready to go and explore the beautiful corale reefs in the Sibadan region – known to be the most beautiful diving spot in the world. Our eight Young Explorers are now preparing their snorkels and flippers and will join us shortly for a trip of a lifetime.

The Dow Live Earth Run for Water

16 10 2009

“The Dow Live Earth Run for Water will bring people together around the world, raising awareness about the sources and consequences of the water crisis, locally and globally,” said Alexandra Cousteau, global water advocate and founder of Blue Legacy International. “It captures perfectly the interconnectedness of life on our water planet and drives home the message that the water crisis is a global issue that isn’t going to be fixed by scientists or policymakers alone. It’s up to each of us.”

Everybody counts in helping to solve the water crisis. The Dow Live Earth Run for Water is a global movement focused on the actions individuals can take to effectively address the issue. People are encouraged to START solving the problem today, RUN in a Dow Live Earth Run for Water run/walk in their community or organize their own run/walk through the Friends of Live Earth program, SAVE water in their home and local community through conservation efforts, GIVE money to support clean, safe water projects and SPEAK UP by signing the Live Earth petition to add water as a basic human right to the U.N. Declaration of Human Rights.

“Water scarcity is an issue that affects all of us and we all have a responsibility to do our part to help solve this global crisis,” said actor and Dow Live Earth Run for Water supporter Jessica Biel. “The beauty of the Dow Live Earth Run for Water is that it gives us a platform to encourage others to be part of the solution to help everyone have access to clean, safe drinking water.”
Dow Live Earth Run for Water cities unveiled today, include Buenos Aires, Argentina; Cape Town, South Africa; Chicago, IL, USA; Hong Kong, China; Jimbaran, Bali, Indonesia; London, UK; Los Angeles, CA, USA; Manchester, UK; Melbourne, Australia; Mexico City, Mexico; Milan, Italy; Minneapolis, MN, USA; New York, NY, USA; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; São Paulo, Brazil; Singapore City, Singapore; Stockholm, Sweden; Toronto, Canada; Washington, D.C., USA.

Taking place on April 18, 2010, the Dow Live Earth Run for Water will feature concerts and water education activities aimed at igniting a massive global movement to help solve the water crisis.

Jessica Biel, Alexandra Cousteau, Pete Wentz, Angelique Kidjo, and Jenny Fletcher joined a coalition of 20 global water NGO’s in announcing the Dow Live Earth Run for Water, a series of 6km run/walks (the average distance women and children walk everyday to secure water) taking place over the course of 24 hours in 192 countries.

1000 Marbles

22 09 2009

Anonymous…heard on a radio:
The average person lives about Seventy-five years. I know, some live more and some live less, but on average, folks live about seventy-five years. Now then, I multiplied 75 times 52 and I came up with 3900, which is the number of Saturdays that the average person has in their entire lifetime.”
“Now, stick with me, Tom, I’m getting to the important part. It took me until I was fifty-five years old to think about all this in any detail” he went on, and by that time I had lived through over twenty-eight hundred Saturdays.
I got to thinking that if I lived to be seventy-five, I only had about a thousand of them left to enjoy. So I went to a toy store and bought every single marble they had. I ended up having to visit three toy stores to round up 1000 marbles. I took them home and put them inside a large, clear plastic container right here in the sack next to my gear.”
“Every Saturday since then, I have taken one marble out and thrown it away. I found that by watching the marbles diminish, I focus more on the really important things in life. There is nothing like watching your time here on this earth run out to help get your priorities straight.”

The extra 1 degree that makes a difference

22 09 2009

An excerpt from 212°: The Extra Degree
by Mac Anderson and Sam Parker

The 212° concept is one of the most powerful communication concepts that I’ve ever experienced.

At 211 degrees…water is hot.
At 212 degrees…it boils.
And with boiling water, comes steam.
And steam can power a locomotive.
And, it’s that one extra degree that…
Makes all the difference.

It’s that one extra degree of effort that separates the good from the great.
What I love about the 212° idea is that you can use it to fit your own needs.                                                                                       It may be 212° service that you’d like to reinforce, or 212° attitude, leadership, or quality.

Improve your Memory

22 09 2009

Memory retrieval
All memories are recovered memories, and we recover them
through associations:

We remember a past event because something currently in our
awareness — something we’re looking at, hearing, tasting,
thinking about, whatever — reminds us of something, which
reminds us of something else, which reminds us of something
else and so on back.
